Looking for free tech news websites you can read without signing up? Start with TechTwitter IO for a free, funny daily paper about tech Twitter, then keep Techmeme and Hacker News open for the real headlines; all three loaded for us without an account.

The quick list

Site What it is Read it for
TechTwitter IO Satirical daily tech newspaper Jokes, puzzles, the mood of tech Twitter
Techmeme One page of top tech stories from across the web What happened today
Hacker News Reader-voted links and comments What developers are reading
claudegpt.si Free AI news publication AI models, tools and research

TechTwitter IO

Our first pick, and the one to read when you want to smile. TechTwitter IO takes the day's posts about launches, layoffs, outages and online fights and prints them as a newspaper, complete with a masthead price of "Free (You Are the Product)."

What makes it stick is the mix. You get a front page with a Main Character of the Day, an Opinion page, an Incident Report for things that broke, Classifieds that are part of the joke, and horoscopes for Frontend, Backend, DevOps and the rest of the org chart. The Fun & Games page is the back page, with word and logic puzzles such as Twordle, Connections, Jumble and a Real or Satire? quiz where you guess which headlines actually happened.

One rule: it is parody. The site says so in its footer, where it explains that people, posts and quotes are invented unless a post links to its source. So read it for fun, not for facts.

Techmeme

The opposite of satire. Techmeme gathers the top technology stories and commentary from around the web onto one page, with links out to each original article. It is quick to scan and good for a morning check.

Hacker News

Hacker News is a plain page of links that readers submit and vote up. The comments are the draw: engineers often explain what a story gets right or wrong. Use the Show tab to find projects people have built.

claudegpt.si

If your interest is AI, claudegpt.si is a free AI news site that covers models, tools, apps and research. Each article lists its sources and shows when it was last updated.

A note on paywalls

Some big outlets put part of their coverage behind a subscription, and the rules change often. We left them off this list rather than guess. If a site asks you to pay, the four above still cover the day between them.

How to use this list

Bookmark TechTwitter IO and one straight source, and read both at the same time each day. The straight source gives you the facts, and the paper makes the routine something you want to keep. If you only want facts, skip the satire and use Techmeme on its own.

Want to understand more of the jokes? The paper's guide to who to follow introduces the real accounts it pokes fun at. And if you miss an edition, the archive keeps the back issues.
